Lev Aharon Weekly Recap: REaPers Rise, Darts Fall Short In Thriller
It was a packed week for Lev Aharon Sports, with all four teams in action and plenty of headlines across the board.
Tune Squad Tip-Off
The Lev Aharon Tune Squad tipped off their inaugural IBL season, led by defensive anchors Yosef “Churbenyama” Churba and Marco Scaba. While the defensive effort was strong, offensive struggles kept them behind all night in a 42–19 loss. However, the second-half adjustments showed promise, outscored by their opponent only 17–12 in the final stretch — momentum they’ll look to build on next week.
REaPers Dominate
The Lev Aharon REaPers made a statement in their season debut, dismantling their opponent 71–37. Josh Chabbott was electric, scoring 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting in th 1st half and totaling 30, while big man Jack Rosow controlled the paint with 16 points (8-of-9) and double-digit rebounds. Backed by REP Basketball and sponsor Abie Rosow, the REaPers look every bit like a title contender.
Oversleepers Still Searching
The Lev Aharon Oversleepers, still trying to find rhythm, dropped another tough match. Ohad Dahan shined in goal, but multiple goals were called back and the team could only find the net three times. With group play halfway done, the Oversleepers need to wake up fast to stay in contention.
Darts vs Drunkin Grown Ups - Prime Time Heartbreaker
All eyes were on Jack Braha's return as the Lev Aharon Darts faced off against top-tier Drunkin Grown Ups in the Saturday night prime time matchup.
The game started off rough. A long 8-play, 50-yard drive gave DGU an early 6–0 lead. After a blocked punt set them up at the 5-yard line, DGU punched in another TD to go up 13–0.
Looking to respond, Braha led a 6-play drive capped off by a TD to Morris Edery, cutting the deficit to 13-7. But momentum was lost just as quickly when Josh Chabbott undercut a route and mistimed the play, giving up a deep bomb for a DGU touchdown. The hole grew deeper: 19-6.
On the very next drive, Braha dialed up a perfect 50-yard strike to Isaac Shama, who beat his man clean down the sideline for the touchdown - now 19-13.
The defense responded immediately. On the ensuing DGU possession, Isaac Shama stepped up again, this time with an interception - his second of the season - setting the Darts up at midfield.
Braha wasted no time, hitting Shama again deep, this time down at the 1-yard line. With time winding down in the half, Braha connected with Moshe Alalo in the back of the end zone for the game-tying TD. On the extra point attempt, he found Morris Edery on a crossing route to give the Darts their first lead of the game: 20-19 at halftime.
The second half opened with disaster: an intentional grounding call in the end zone led to a safety, swinging the lead back to DGU, 21–20. Still, the Darts responded. A key 4th down conversion from Braha to Shama set up Edery’s second TD, reclaiming the lead 26–21 with under six minutes to go.
The defense needed one more stop — and nearly had it. On 4th and 4, a tipped pass by Max Ovadia miraculously landed in the hands of a DGU receiver who broke tackles for a first down. DGU capitalized, scoring the game-winner with one minute left to win it, 28–26.
With no timeouts, Braha and the offense had one last chance but came up short on four downs.
The loss drops the Darts to 2-2-1, a frustrating mark considering three games were decided by two points or fewer. Notable key players Marvin Levy and Meyer Sakkal were out this game. Coach Chooch (Rabbi Yehoshua Cohen) is already preparing for a rebound. The team practices Tuesday and will be back under the lights Saturday night and this time, they won’t start slow.
